This would explain why I've seen some retailers selling the 5000 for less than the 2500.
I can also think of one very good reason for discontinuing it: the internal rotating disk means you're at risk of losing your data if you bang it too hard, and it probably has less capacity than some CF cards. Meanwhile, its CF slot is limited to 2GB.
I'll bet they're working on a replacement, they've sold most of the ones in inventory, and they don't want to make another batch of them.
