Hey everybody. I am getting a little desperate. I had a ventriloqist team called Big Walter and Little Willie in the studio yesterday and I couldn't get a hold of the situation. Big Walter was fine, sm7-Sebatron-1176, deep voice that the 76 loves. Little Willie is where I had serious problems, 58-Midas Venice-DBX 160xt, but I am having a hard time getting a good level from him. And isolation is terrible! He seems to be in the room mics and Big Walter's mic, everywhere but his own! Should I maybe switch to a LDC mic?
I suggested we separate them, putting a gobo between Big Walter and Willie (who is incredibly short), but Walter said that wouldn't help. Willie sounds kind of "spitty" and has a bit of a lisp. They are coming back next weekend for a free day, but Walter, who just got out of jail and is a big guy, said I better get it straight or him and Willie are going to kick my ass for wasting their time! I'm sure I could take Willie (you just wouldn't believe how short he is), but Walter...
