FOK hell yeah! What I ususally do is put a FOK about 8' in front of the kit and crush it. I position it to get less cymbals and more drums or else the cymbals will get nasty when blending in with the o/h's. I get enough ambience between the o/hs and fok that I hardly use the room mics - especially when you use LDCs for the overheads. I like also using a pair of SDC's as o/hs and get a pretty cool tight punchy sound, albiet drier than LDC's. But blended with the fok it sounds pretty good. It's ususally enough for me - I pan the oh's hard l/r and the fok dead center and violla!

Anyhow, put up as many mics as you like - you don't have to mix them in, but it's good insurance.
