Or: cut nothing off the wool, just make the frame a bit bigger and add some threads, tape or piano wire to keep the wool from falling out the big opening. It will only make the whole thing a bit bigger, but just by the thickness of your frame.

actually it will work...at least i think we are talking about the same thing here..

setting aside whats hes proposing.....

before i built my traps, i thought i had to have something to keep the rockwool from falling out...you dont actually ( ceiling cloud is a little bit different in this case)

You just build the frame slightly smaller than the size of rockwool you are using...and that with the fabric, the rockwool isnt going anywhere...plus with mine, things like the brackets and screws i used in the interior of the frame added to keeping the rockwool in place...when you put the rockwool in, its a press fit.

in a few of my 4" traps, the fabric is only slighlty pushed out a bit from the weight of the insulation....( its actually kind of looks nice)

plus the insulation doesnt weigh that much....

if you want to add some support to the rockwoo ( brackets/wires whatever), then thats fine...but the only thing holding the insulation in.....in all my traps is the undersized frame and fabric....
