I'm just starting this whole music deal beause I've wanted to have a piece in music my whole life (I'm 19 if that matters) and I finally want to get more serious about it. I recently bought a yamaha mx 12/4 which after looking at reviews, is a decent mixer. I currently have a stock soundcard which I know is horrible and can't do much with it. So I'm in the search for a soundcard. I was wondering since I have a good mixer do I really have to pay a couple hundred dollars for a soundcard or can I get a cheaper (but not too cheap) soundcard? And can anyone recommend me a soundcard.

I'm also going to get my first mic and I've came to the conclusion of Shure sm57 or MXL V67g. (let me know if you would recommend me something better for a first mic.)
