 Grand Piano noise - Condo
Hi guys,
I just inherited a baby grand piano (5'1"). After I restore it, I'm going to put it upstairs and want to know how to not have the sound affect our neighbors too much. We live in a townhouse/condo on the 2nd floor. The room is a large great room with 12 foot vaulted ceilings and a tile floor. We have 1 neighbor on side (concrete wall) and then underneath us (concrete as well). How to I make sure that the sound transfers the least amount through the walls and floor? I have a pretty good amount of 4 inch thick rigid fiberglass panels (covered with acoustical fabric) and some 2 inch that I could hang on the wall. They are professionally made. I was thinking of putting on of the 4 inch ones underneath the piano on top of a platform to absorb sound from the sound board and putting the 4" panels in an L shape in the corner the piano will be in (I would like to put it in the corner that is right next to the neighbor's if possible because it is the only available corner in the room)
Also, is there something that I can make that will decouple the sound from the floor (the piano has metal casters).
