u speak of INSIDE cubase/nuendo right ! The yellow/orange monitor icon on the channel.
but with my M-audio box.... i could hear everything ALONG with my plugged in instrument at all times... whether i was using nuendo/cubase or not.
I am guessing N8 does not do that..there is some routing trick i will need to figure out.

just to explain my classic scenario...when i used M-audio....i had my guitar directly plugged to the sound card...i could hear the clean guitar signal...then i would open nuendo....add a guitar track and insert a guitar distortion vst plugin...and to hear the wet (distortion) effect i would press the monitor button. But otherwise...my clean guitar signal would be audible at all times once plugged into the m-audio no matter i was using nuendo or not.
