If you're wanting to lay it out on a timeline and not trigger loops on the fly I'd take a hard look at Acid Pro 6 or 7.

The workflow is simpler and more precise for that type thing than Ableton in my experience.

Very easy to use, as when you drop a couple of tracks in it, it will autopmatically look for matching parts between them and try to mix it in for you automatically. Works maybe 60% of the time on it's own, but if it's out of sync, you can always drag the songs manually to create good crosses between your mixes.
