Avid is not PC only, that's for sure. I've owned it and used it on a Mac myself.
Why Pro Tools would be in jeopard is a mystery to me. Great brand recognition, solid market share- you'd be hard pressed to find a company doing better in their field.
Avid is a similar bunch of *********s as Digidesign, but slightly better. This can't hurt matters, that's for sure.
