Pardon me if I'm preaching to the choir, but if you haven't already, you might try
tracking the occasional part to it every now and then. Yes, it's a pain to realign the tracks once you bring them back into your DAW, but there's a difference -- weirdly -- between sounds that are tracked to tape as opposed to sounds that are tracked to a DAW and then bounced out to tape. Acoustic guitar or drums are often good test subjects.
The difference in method is often pronounced -- though my mind can't seem to really address
why.
