Speaker ISO box

I built a guitar speaker isolation cabinet so I can track guitars at my condo whenever I want.

I based this off a design that I saw in another thread here somewhere. The goal was as much isolation as I could get in a space I could put in the closet. I bought all materials from the Home Depot except the fabric from a local fabric store and the mineral wool insulation from another place here in town.

I don't have much room to build stuff, so I did this on my back patio with pretty basic tools: circular saw, mitre saw, drill, hand tools etc.....

I used 2 layers of 1/2" MDF for the box-

Materials gathered and basic dimensions cut:

It's a "box within a box" design, so I needed a little separation for an air gap between the two layers of MDF. I used the stuff you put underneath laminate flooring. I could have ordered some high density rubber or something, but this thing is heavy enough, and I guess I took a gamble that a little gap would add to the isolation, no way of knowing for sure if one would have worked better than the other..........

Home Depot didn't have "sound" caulk or sealant or anything, so I used some other stuff, I can't even remember what it was, but the guy said it was the closest thing they had:

I built the bottom of the box first then the outside box around it, then I put in the "inside" box and sealed all the seams as I went. This way all the seams were a sort of "stairstep" angle, I've read around these parts that it's better isolation that way.

The lid seals over a 2" lip made by having the "inside box" come up past the "outside box" by 2".
Box done, all sealed up:
