I guess that statement was more true 2 years ago, but it's an indication of which things are harder to emulate. It would also explain the high CPU power needed for this type of plug-in.
I'm thrilled though that plug-ins are making another step forwards and getting ever closer to their hardware counterparts; Softube TubeTech CL-1B, UAD Fatso & Elysia mPressor for example.
I'm also interested in a direct comparison (with soundfiles!) between SPL TwinTube & WaveArts Tube Saturator
