Corollary 1: If you're going to play with a risky upgrade, do it on a new partition. Learn to use a product like BootItNG first (using a new blank hard disk), then either copy an existing partition to a new partition, or install a new version of the OS in a new partition. That way, you still have your old partition, in excellent working order, if you need to fall back.
