Plenty on the steinberg hardware page about the CC121, CI2, MR816 CSX and MR816 X, but not a single mention of the N12 and there never has been.
I think the problems with the N12 driver stability issues have long since been roecognised by steinberg and dare I say it, side stepped, leaving us all with a very expensive paper weight.
I bought mine just before the A&H R16 came out and am kicking myself now that I jumped in while I did.
While my N12 was solid on 32bit xp with AI4 and Cubase studio 4, as soon as I made the leap to Cubase 5 it started getting flakey. More and more I see myself getting total dropout for 1-2 seconds while tracking with the ASIO meter never above 20%, no spikes, no nothing, just total loss of sound and cubase ready light, then it comes back like it was never gone.
Great convertors and great mic pre's and great reverb and a cool morphing comp can't make up for stability....stability is what I rely on, as I guess most of us do. That's what we paid for and that's what a LOT of us are not getting. It's a shame, and my guess is that George forseen steinberg/yamaha turning their back on the N12 and got out with his reputation intact. Who could blame him? Not me. If you are thinking of purchasing an N8 or N12 for the first time have a look at the ratio of issues to working systems in this thread and think again unless you are happy to be running cubase 4 on xp 32bit. That is the only stable setup I know of after 18 months of owning an N12 and following this thread and every other thread I can find on the internet about it. |
Well said lemontree...all I can say is if there is anyone reading this contemplating a n12 all i can do is echo what the last post said....
DO NOT BUY a yamaha n12.
I actually dont think it is fair that in order to run the n12 in a stable manner I would have to install a 32 bit operating system developed over 8 years ago...
I wouldnt be so upset if Yamaha/steinberg hadnt kept selling me on how seamlessly "integrated" the n12 is with cubase. In all my years I have been involved with audio gear and even computers I have NEVER seen a piece of hardware and software so stubbornly refuse to cooperate (or even work in any manner). BSODs? Really? For $2000? Really?
If I did this to one of my customers I would fully expect them to take me to court....
