If it is just for playing in I would start with a few bass traps made from mineral wool or rigid fiberglass with thinner panels (made from the same) throughout the room on the walls (maybe start with covering around 25% of the walls). Is this the general set up for a room, even if he was to move the drum into a slightly smaller space?
