Ok problem fixed. As I suspected, spraying out the switches must have agitated a dirty connection in one of the IC's. I pushed down on all them one at a time and found one that made the display flicker. Removed and reset and now she back up running...with all clean and happy switches too.

btw, the guilty offender was the 3.01-1 upgrade chip located directly behind the parameter knob.
