You're gonna hate this answer, but the most effective, easiest, least expensive thing you could do would be to move. Double-pane glass would help to some degree, but I seriously doubt your land lord would reimburse you for it...he's certainly not legally required to. The only other means to address it would be to plug the windows...build sheet rock walls over the windows essentially. If your fiance isn't grooving with the packing blankets, I don't think she'll be on board with removing the only natural light. Women and natural light...what can you do?
