It's a matter of taste, I had a 176, it was way to blobby sounding for the kind of rock I mostly do, it's was OK on male vocals but I hated on female. I owned an LA2A for years and grew tired of the sound, ended up with a CL1B that I use on a daily basis. Love it, I think it's lush but modern sounding. I think you have to try for yourself, when I got the 176 after reading so much good about it, I wanted to love it but I just didn't.
