Just an update on this thread....I went through the Apogee Ensemble route and have happily become a Metric Halo user! (Also upgraded my pres: API, Great River & Avedis).....
Now that I've had Logic for a year (& Cubuse for a short while), I've been wanting to get into Pro Tools so I can use it for project that I get contracted for. After going through the threads and talking to distributors, I've been informed by many that you should have Pro Tools dedicated to it's own computer. Some of my recording buddies won't use it anymore because they can't have their DP/Sonar/[insertyourDAWhere] on the same comp because the Digi stuff wants to take over and they end up uninstalling it.
One friend said PT is what the AOL software was to a computer, and after having AOL for many years and (stupidly) DLing their sotware on one of my XP PC's for gits n shiggles last year and having that computer CRASH & SPIT and PISS all over me! Eventually I had to go in and do some MAJOR deleting of folders (yeah, "Uninstall" or removing it via the Control does NOT work with AOL!!!!) to get the fkcu RID of AOL! Yeah, my bud said that PT is the same way! It does NOT play well with others!
So, do I need to get another computer and dedicate it to JUST PT? I mean, I buy a couple of computers a year as it (yes, 1 Mac, 1 PC) just to keep ahead of the fray and have backup systems. But I'd like to have 1 laptop with PT/Logic/Cubase on it that way I can pack it, and throw my Fast Track, Duet, Dongles, mic, cable and headphones in another bag and go to jury duty/family party/on the train/to the pool, whatever! (Shoot, I HATE sitting at my desk all the time!)
Any thoughts?
