This Reaper Recorder Lite could be bundled with the Big Editor.
*) not that Reaper isn't stable, but smaller/simpler would always be safer.

Metric Halo "Record Panel" does exactly this but only with the Metric Halo interfaces. It simply records tracks and from my limited experience with it (I have used it about a year) it is rock solid stable.
