Remember that you can hold down the Command key while dragging the vertical yellow automation bar up/down (in automation view) to offset automation on a track. This way you don't have to shift+drag the automation which is slow and annoying.

No. However, there's a small offset "error" in the I/O plug-in that means you can't always get it to match the fader value exactly, if that's what you wanted.

Yes, or simply lower the stereo ouput fader. The Gain plug-in can be inserted as the first plug-in on the stereo output if you're overloading the input of a plug-in later in the chain on the stereo output. If you're not using plug-ins on the stereo output, then simply lower the fader. Logic operates in floating point, so there will be no loss of audio quality by doing so.
