Gearslutz.com - View Single Post - 4 - and 8 - channel preamps

Hello,

I know it's been done to death, but I'll be buying a set of preamps in October and can't really try anything here. I'm looking at (roughly) 1500$ for the set.

What I can try is Octopre, ART Tubefire, Presonus Digimax D (in my price range), I've already tried TLA 5001 4-channel unit and found it...ehem...lacking.

I'm using Fireface 800 and its preamps (not the greatest but usable) and Joe Meek Studio Channel VC1Qcs, altogether 5 channels. I'll need more in October as I'm planning to record my jazz trio tenor/soprano sax, guitar and double-bass on location.

A few preamps did cross my mind

- DAV BG2 (4 channels)
- Audient 008 (8 channels)
- Mackie 800r ( 8 channels, hard to get right now)
- Presonus Digimax LT (8 channles, a bit older and supposedly better version of D)

Any help would be appreciated.
