Ok, I'll try to explain.
Every Mac comes with a pre-installed OS.
You can always update your OS to a newer version (except your hardware is not supported anymore), but you NEVER can install an older OS X version on that machine.
f.e.: actual Macs ship(ped?) with "Leopard 10.5.x" ---> so you can't install "Tiger 10.4.x"
After the release of Snow Leopard all Macs ship with the new OS pre-installed.
I remember when I bought my Macbook it came with 10.5 pre-installed, just a few weeks after the release. It took many weeks and updates till everything ran as smooth as it does now. - I personally don't want to risk waiting again -
