I always send a healthy amount to my hardware verbs. Then set the level in the mix with the return fader. Since 99% of us are using digital hardware verbs, I always thought it best to send as much signal to the unit that you can, so as to utilize the full bit depth. Usually the digital verbs sound less "grainy" this way. In my experience at least.
