voyager vs arturia minimoog v

so i was looking for a little programming inspiration for my voyager, and it occurred to me there was some cool patches on the arturia minimoog v, and it might be fun to program them on the voyager and see what little programming tips i could pick up.

first, i actually liked the sound of the v... i've always liked it, found it to be kind of warm compared to many soft synths... at 96khz, it is really good, and takes up alot of juice on my arcane system.

at any rate, you can't really program the sounds to match too scientifically, since the controls are different and the voyager has a few things that the old minimoog didn't have...

and the settings are different... so, what you have to do, i think, is not a 1:1 comparison, in which case, depending on the patch parameters, the software might come out ahead, but listen to the software patch and then tweak the hardware, going for the "essence" of the patch.

when you do that, i'm sorry to say guys, the voyager destroys the soft synth.

and, alot of it, i'm sure, has to do with the performance parameters. one reason i could never get on totally with the se1, which is a great sounding unit, is because i had a cheap m audio keyboard plugged into it.

but with the moog, the keys react very well to the synth, and you can really set the glide and the attack to get just the kind of butter between the notes that you want...

all that said... if you're looking to layer some moog sounds into your track... pads, arps, etc... the minimoog v, especially with nice converters, run through outboard, and run at 96khz, is quite nice for the price!!!
