Did your friend see any evidence of any damage near the parking space?
Like for example; broken glass, bits of metal, skid marks or anthing to suggest an accident took place. Were there any neighbours around at the time who could have witness this? As aiff said, "You would have thought that he (or one of his nice neighbours) would have heard a veeeerrrry loud noise."
