I'm not sure of the exact science behind this configuration, and welcome some correction or explanation, but what a friend and I have used is this: Use a good thick cable like Mogami 2549, then on the guitar side TS use one conductor for signal and one for ground leaving the shield free. On the amp side TS tie signal to tip and then tie both shield and signal/guitar ground together to the shield of the TS. Seems to work good at about 50ft but with some guitar/amp combos the capacitance can cause the cable to make noise when it is shaken hard.
