Sorry couldn't resist. That was kinda my point though. There's definitely no rule saying do it this way every time.

I always call this technique the fryer, and it is easy to make things a little to crispy so to the OP, if you are going to do it with hardware track both (dry and fried), that way you can mix them later.

Also to the OP: one other part of that sound, that I suspect you are also looking for is a little real room sound. Not a dead closet, or tiny iso booth.

RTR- he's not using the acapella's he wants his vocals to sound more like them.
