It's not about what looks good on paper but real world performance and MOST important : reliability. It's long been known that USB just doesn't cut it for real-time transfer*. I suspect this (RME) product is a knee-jerk response to Apple cutting Firewire out of their previous round of MacBooks.
(*Apogee had the good sense to limit their new USB interface to a single channel, limited at 44 or 48 khz rate)
