As snare slut myself
, I must say my favorite is a maple 1 ply Slingerland 14x6.5 from the late 80's. There is something about it that sounds better than any multi ply drum to my ears. My next drum will be a maple 1 ply 14X5 but I am not sure what brand, maybe Craviotto or possibly make my own with a Vauncraft shell. As with any drum and especially older drums, always check that it is round.
