| I Feel Like I'm Missing Something
hey all,
so I'm looking to upgrade my set up. Now that I've just been able to clear out my upstairs garage to track drums, I realized that I think I'm doing it all wrong.
My current set up is: Mackie 1202 VLZ mixer. I run the ALT 3-4s out to my Mobile Pre interface in channel 1 and 2 and record stereo in Logic Pro. I sometimes run the two outputs on my Mobile Pre back into channels 10/11 on the Mackie, though I'm not entirely sure why anymore.
I'm basically only using the Mackie for the preamps I feel. Not really sure how to go about using it to actually "mix" or if its even needed.
Now that I'm actually focusing on getting a good drum sound, I really want to make sure I have a good mixing set up. I'd use the mixer more with balancing things out on each drum mic, but other than a compressor I have no other outboard gear at the moment. I just feel like bouncing everything to one stereo track into my Mobile Pre isn't the right way to be doing things.
I'm sure upgrading my Mobile Pre to a much larger audio interface will be helpful in that I'd be able to record the separate kick, snare, overheads, etc. drum mics all at the same time and have more control over the mix, but I'm not entirely sure how I'd even go about setting that up.
If anyone has any suggestions/tips on a better (and not costly) set up, it would be much appreciated. There's just something in the back of my head that makes me think I'm missing something dfegad
