Ya know, people manufacture stuff that is pure crap, there are amounts you pay for quality, free isn't it.
You only have to buy quality once, maybe twice if environmental changes dictate, (VCR to DVD) but if you wait a solution comes. Transfer recorders.
You can copy your VCR Godfather Troilogy to DVD at home.

A lot of crappy stuff that costs nothing to make sold worldwide to a waiting audience makes bucks and in a company someone gets paid well to be clever enough to assemble a team that can distribute that money among departments that can duplicate that. In the old days, good stuff got signed too and significant surpluses got used on making not-so-commercial records.
Those days left with those old A&R guys.

If you don't like what's out there, don't buy it, but don't download it either. That, when monitored and reported, makes labels think that trash is gold and the whole industry standard comes down to accommodate common perceptions which is just not to be the goal of any endeavor.

Commercial is not synonymous with quality.
