Actually, the 3g mic sounds pretty good, and has pretty darn flat response. There is another thread about it:

The 1st gen mic was very bad, and the new one is good but has a steep low end roll off to avoid plosives, but the 3g mic is considered by some to be good enough for measurement (at least on a radio shack level, if not better).
