Which drum module? Shooting for that '80s' thing

I've got some authentic acoustic samples, but this time I'm shooting for more of an electronic sound. I'm probably not going to explain this right, but I'm not looking for acoustic OR electronic drums. I want that 'in between' sound. It sounds like a drum module for an electric kit. You know, where it isn't precisely acoustic, but not totally electronic either.

^ this is seriously the best example I have found. Not too electronic, not too acoustic. Perfect.

I was told to go with an Alesis D4 and that's what I think I'll do, but I wanted to post this thread before I shell out for it. I'm not a drummer (just a programmer) and I wanted to check to see if something else may be worth looking at to achieve the kind of a sound that I'm looking for. It'd be nice to find some samples of that D4 and others like it... All I can say is that it's that 'in between' sound
