first of all it´s more of a drum/perc-synth.....though one oscillator is able to load a sample.....and than has 1001 ways to tweak it.....it´s just so unintuitive!
didn´t really get into the patter sequencer also.....for me ...it´s just to complicated!

nah, i don't really like Ultrabeat either. It looks like it has a lot of potential, but it also looks like a little more than i need to put down some drums. Maybe i need to mess with it more, but i wasn't really feelin it too much.
Other than that, back to the original poster's question...I find that the stuff that comes with Logic is really cool. You might want to give it a go before you start buying software, if nothing more that to determine what more you need/what Logic lacks. I find that as for my software instrument needs go, Logic's stock synths with a little beefing up do the trick. But i do alot of my stuff with hardware, and i still say hardware can't be beat.
