It's not doing anyone any good. The negative press from 'bankrupting single mothers' far exceeds any benefit from financial restitution. It is also not an effective deterrent.
That is why the RIAA stopped. They are now, more wisely, focusing on those websites that organize and facilitate the piracy of millions.
Making torrent sites responsible for removing copyright material will be much more effective at forcing piracy underground and to the fringes.
