I don't remenmber talk about 114db, maybe that was the D/A?
Anyhow I use to get hung up on specs and I no longer do because there is more to it than just the dynamic range of the converters that affect sound quality.
I would think you could get good recordings out of the Saffire so the "upgrade" in my mind would be the features like you say.
