Anyways the producer dude used a laptop live, and kind of massaged/played his laptop mouse pad. Cool FX, but nothing like the record. He didn't exactly stand out next to the incredible playing that was going on. Don't remember what the software was, this was years ago.
Uri Caine is incredible, but honestly, its not really even his project, and I noticed this when I saw them live. They just used his name because its the most well known. Live, he just played a moogish soft-synth, while most of the sound came from the other guys. The drum and bass/breakbeat sound is mostly Tim Lefebvre and Zack Danziger, who've have both played in drum n bass outfits back in the day. And even the game-show quirky sounding tunes are more like Boomish, another Lefebvre project, even though they feature Uri's playing.
I could be way off tho...
Anyways, the album is really cool, but completely all over the place. | There's no way that could be soft synth on the record though. Yeah, the drums sound like some kind of electronic drum kit, cause they have a very live feel. I was hoping maybe there'd be an insider on this forum. I think the bass sounds are what really do it for me. I'd like to incorporate similar sounds into my music - which is more rock with bits of electronica and hip hop mixed in.
