Star Trek was pretty good... but I'm not a fan at all, so I wasn't disappointed, and I didn't think it was confusing at all...

Go get Netflix and add these to your queue:

Romance:
Once
Before Sunset
Before Sunrise
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Garden State
Science of Sleep

Comedy:
40 Year Old Virgin
Knocked Up
Wedding Crashers
Borat

Crime:
Godfather I and II
Goodfellas
Scarface
American Gangster
EVERY QUENTIN TARINTINO MOVIE (fanboy )
True Romance

Foreign:
Amalie
The Professional
Grave of the Fireflies (this WILL make you cry)

Art:
Muholland Drive
A Scanner Darkly

Action:
Watchmen
Equilibrium

Eh, done typing, but there's some great movies to get started... of course half of those are classics that you should have seen by now.... but that's still a list of some of my favorites...
