To my defense I DID say "so many hit records", not all of them.
I was thinking on the lines of early Police, Bobby Brown, Warrant, most hair metal, and all those cheesy drum machine-using acts that tended to all sound the same. Those sounds seemed to be encapsulated within that decade because no one seems to want to use that gear anymore.
