I would go with the triggering from the sampler.
I used to trigger from my acoustic kit into a sampler. Such a snap to create different tunings and setups and save them into presets.
Not only can you get the sounds you are now thinking of, you can get sounds that you haven't thought of yet. You can put patch changes or whole sequences on a single pad and trigger these events at will.
maybe for some song you would like to change the sound to something completely different. For another song, trigger the 808 sound with the kick and the snare!
