2 weeks later the new one arrives. after uploading all the new updates and a relatively smooth install, i thought id try and see how it sounds by playing a few reference wavs extracted from cd via windows media player.
all i get is clicks, pops and dropouts- with everything. ive tried all the possible configurations, buffer settings and sample rates, but still no difference.
ive had a lot of different audio gear (maudio fw solo and pci audiophile, mackie 400f, emu 1212m) and never a problem like this so im a little concerned at this point...
the only other thing i could possibly try is to buy a dedicated ti fw card (im currently using the fw port on my emu 1212m-'agere fw323-06'... i have used this port for the solo and 400f in the past) and reinstall the old drivers.
anybody have more suggestions?

gigagyte 775 mobo
xp home sp3
4 gig kingston ram
3.2 cpu

I had that problem, upgraded the firmware and it went away. Some people have had luck trying different firewire cards. You on a PC, what OS? If its XP, I think you need to make sure there is a certain patch installed which I believe came with SP2. Do a search on this thread and youll find it, Geosync suggested it to me a couple of months back on this thread,

hope that helps
Mike

oops, just saw your specs at the bottom. You should still check for thaqt patch but it seems less likely if your on SP3
