Wow what a love hate product. Personally I think $299 is worth just getting to know how SSL works. No it won't make you an engineer but it will at least give you an idea of what is at task. I can see recording schools starting with this, hell I can even built complete business around this product teaching SSL lol. Genius idea on part of SSL to get more market share from everyone else by making you familiar with SSL. This is the adobe marketing model. Crack the product for everyday users and they will learn it and then buy it on pro level such as photoshop, illustrator. It may not sound like a SSL but it sure will tell you how an SSL operates and get your familiar with it so when you are on real console it will at least make sense. Truly genius! I see a new trend. All new boards being implemented into DAW so the more folks know that board the likely they will eventually buy the real thing. SSL guys are the winner in all this for sure.
Another thing everyone is been bitchin about is the VST support. If this was my product I would never introduce that into version 1....maybe version 2 or 3 and it will take tons of market share. VST implementation is not very easy to introduce into first time product...I think they did great by not implementing in version one...having said that I can't see product grow very far with out it either. If they want to take product far they must have VST in the coming versions. All and all this kind of competition is always welcome and it will only make companies more innovative.
I will buy it just so i can master SSL simulation and be familiar with it.
I will use it if engine is quality enough.
I will switch when they have VST.
That should be easy enough goal for guys in Sweden.
