I have to admit with all the users on this thread who own Yamaha N8/N12 Mixers, I am surprised they don't chime in regarding 'yamaha compared to' to other products. I am not diss'ing, ...just sayin'. But it occurs to me maybe this is intended to be a technical issue thread only? Hence my question.

i don't have access to a range of other pre-amps in order to offer you my own subjective opinion. however, you might want to look at some professional reviewers' opinions such as the review in sound on sound. i'm certainly happy with it.
