It's difficult to tell you where you should go to listen to monitors in LA if you don't realy specify what type and what range.

Two places that I have been happy with their selection are:

RSPE (High and Low Priced, Genelec, Adams, Focals, JBL's and others) Good Listening room, and private.

and belive it or not
The Hollywood Guitar Center, great little iso room with Icons and SSL's with a pretty good pro monitor selection.

in West LA you might want to give West LA Music a shot. I remember thinking there show room was nice but can't remember how great of a listening enviroment it was.

I do all my shoping at RSPE and have been really happy with their selection. I am sure someone will chime in a tell you about the Mecca, but these were the places I went to when I was shopping for Monitors. And I listened for hours at RSPE and bought a pair of Adam S3A's.
