With the technical revolution that has occurred to DJ's of late I would consider this dubious. Does everyone want/deserve/require your exact track listing for the set? Are you being robbed of your intellectual property as a programmer of the set?
What we have to remember though, is that back in the day anyone could get behind a pair of decks and learn to beat-mix, the real magic from a DJ came from track selection and pure skill. Nowadays anyone with NI Traktor, Serrato Final Scratch and the likes can beat-mix with their eyes closed and pull an insurmountable amount of tricks over the set without breaking a sweat, the magic is still in track selection though.
Will this create a bunch of Hawtin clones worldwide? Who knows, but I am a little sceptical, call me oldschool but I remember the days of spinning a whitelable with the satisfaction that I knew it kicked ass as well as that no one had it, on top of the fact that no-one knew what it was.
I guess gone are those days...... |
