i am an audix dealer, i know the mics very well

the off-axis rejection is superb and is what really sets audix mics apart from the rest, great for live drum micing.

i personally prefer a 421 for studio use on toms, but have never actually put them next to each other for a shootout.

a sales rep suggested this trick: use a d2 (high) and a d4 (low) to mic up a leslie cabinet, then play with the panning for the desired rotary effect.

great results.
