I don't know if this is what you're talking about but I used to use the audix drum clips or whatever they're called instead of a stand and I quickly noticed that the drum vibrating thru the clip caused way too much audible distortion to be useful in a recording enviroment. I went back to using stands and have had no problems with distortion.
