I just use an external FW drive hooked up to my Mac in the other room. Easy solution here, I just drilled a hole into the wall and another one through the floor! (My Live room is just underneath the control room).
I couldn't mix with a computer besides me, the noise would drive me nuts. My Avantone MixCube that I use for mono checking has a bit of a hum and that's bad enough to hear if there's silence. BTW, Avantone promised a solution that never came, pretty disappointing!
