the trick is to hit it so you are using the make up make up gain between 4 and 10. they are in smaller steps between there... much finer control.

its great for mixing tho (which i don't do alot of, but the SHMC is great on many things there)

its not the fastest comp.. but well suited for bus duties.

also, its very fragile and fickle.
shadow hills is quick with fixes to any problems tho
yeah i think people see the way it looks and expect it to color the hell out of the sound. which it can do if you need it to. i also rarely take a db off. that is actually a lot with this compressor. i'm not a mastering engineer but track, mix, and put mine on the 2mix all of the time. it's one of my favorites. hit me up if you're in nyc and you can check mine out.
